The fat and moisture regulation is disturbed: Dry facial skin may have genetic causes, but also related to the age. Because with the years, the skin dries out increasingly. The sebum production decreases, the epidermis can bind less moisture and the sweat glands form less sweat.
Dry skin – these are the symptoms
If you have dry skin, your body can not store enough fat and moisture. Especially on skin areas that have particularly thickened skin, it often comes to dry skin.
These include soles, ankles, elbows, knuckles or even the knees. Often the skin here is torn or very rough and requires special care. Other indications that you have very dry skin are the following:
- Tension on the whole body after showering
- itching
- Burning or itching on the face after cleansing the face
- Sensitive reactions to certain cosmetic products or make-up
The causes of dry skin are many. Most of the time, environmental influences such as cold, heat, UV rays, exhaust fumes, irritants from cosmetics and frequent contact with water deplete the forces of our skin.
Also, a one-sided diet, mental stress and not least your hormones have a major impact on your skin and contribute to dry skin. Good care should, therefore, come first with you.
For dry skin: You can do that
Protecting your skin is a good way to get a grip on dry skin. This includes high UV protection in summer, warm clothing in winter and a rich cream. Sufficient drinking also helps against dry skin. In addition, you need a gentle care:
- The shower does not get too hot as it irritates the skin and changes its natural PH value.
- Also in the bath, you should do without. The water removes a great deal of moisture from the skin and makes it even more sensitive.
- For care products, look for mild, fragrance-free cosmetics that are specially made for sensitive and dry skin. Above all, rich oils can bring your skin back on track. Argan oil, olive oil and coconut oil have been proven to improve your skin’s appearance.
- Alcohol should not be part of your beauty products. Because dry skin burns turn red and lose even more moisture.
- If you are sensitive to cosmetics, it may help to switch to natural cosmetics. Because fewer chemicals are processed here, which can prevent skin irritation.
If you have dry skin, you need a special cream to keep your skin from dryness.
Important for the care of dry skin
The skin also tightens and itches especially on the lower legs above the shins, feet, hands, elbows and forearms. It’s best to care for dry skin with oily scrubs and rich lotions.
- No long and hot bubble baths and shower orgies – this dries out the skin additionally. If you love long baths, should still be limited to a maximum of 20 minutes! Even highly perfumed products can be irritating.
- In the case of shower gel and bubble baths, checking the ingredients: Many of the products foam heavily – this suggests the cleansing effect. They contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), which can irritate the skin. Use better shower oil or oil baths. Or products that contain milder washing substances, such as coconut oils, that do not irritate the skin.
- The temperature of the water is also crucial. Do not shower too hot or take a bath!
- A rich body lotion or body butter for dry skin is best applied after showering or bath on the still moist skin. So it better absorbs into the depths of the upper skin layer.
- Not only sun exposure, sun creams, tanning products are also difficult with dry skin because some self-tanners dry them out.
